San Diego Child Psychological Evaluations

How can an evaluation help?

You have noticed that your child is having more trouble at school and home, and you aren’t sure of how to help them. Their teachers have said they are struggling with certain behaviors in class, aren’t making friends, or their grades are not where they should be.

If you have concerns that your child may have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, or a Learning Disorder, a psychological evaluation may be a good step to supporting them.

A psychological evaluation can help you understand your child’s strengths and areas where they need additional support. Following completion of an evaluation, you will walk away with individualized recommendations for your family and a clear plan of how to help them.

What do you evaluate?

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Intellectual functioning

  • Learning disorders

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Depression

What should I expect in an evaluation?

Prior to beginning an evaluation, we will have a brief 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals and concerns that have led to you seeking an evaluation. Based upon that call, we will develop an assessment plan for the evaluation that will generally include:

  • Intake interview with parents and child

  • Completion of rating scales by parents, children, and sometimes teachers

  • Reviewing past relevant medical background or evaluations

  • In-person testing for intellectual and learning concerns

Following the completion of all testing, you will attend a parent-only feedback session where we will go over the results of the evaluation including any diagnoses and recommendations made based upon the evaluation. You will receive an electronic copy of the report for your records.

How much does an evaluation cost?

The cost of an evaluation ranges based upon your concerns. During our initial 15-minute consultation, I will provide an estimate of the cost of an evaluation. In general, evaluations range from $2000-$2500. I am out-of-network with all insurance companies. Half of the cost of the evaluation is due at the time of your first evaluation appointment. The other half of your evaluation cost is due at the feedback session prior to receiving your evaluation report.
